"I Promise You" -
Birth of an Activist

..somebody should do something about that....
..somebody...
..somebody...

HEY..... wait a moment...

that 'somebody'... it's ME!

"I don't know what makes some people 'watchers'.. and some people 'doers'...

..for me it's like a compulsion.. i have no choice in the matter anymore... i was born to do this... to speak out and act for animal rights..."

".. those images of cruelty changed me.. for ever.. spoke to me... and there was no turning back..."

"... that little girl, that wouldn't dare to raise her hand in class...grew up to be somebody that wants to raise the roof for animals.. because i found that i could no longer live in peace while there was a war being waged against animals.. i could no longer feel full while they were being starved... or feel warm knowing that they were being enslaved in cold cages.. i could not feel save while they were being brutalized and i certainly couldn't feel free while they are still oppressed..."

"Activism, destroys me. But it also heals me.

Activism starts as a whisper in our souls... a voice deep inside.. almost like an intuition... that nudges and stares at our conscious dead in the eye and make us ask the tough questions... such as 'can i sleep at night knowing what i know NOW...'

For me , giving these animals a voice.. these choiceless animals...acting on behalf of these animals i would never know... makes me feel more connected to my highest self... we all have this in us.. we can all change the world, we can all raise our hands...

For me, i promise you, i will no rest until every cage is empty and every tank is drained...."

This short but powerful speech from Simone Reyes spoke straight to my very soul... and i know why. The simple reason is.. her words are my words, her actions my actions, her promise my promise.

Talking animals... simply hilarious!

This has to be one of the funniest animals video out there, turn the volume up and enjoy! :)

While speaking out and fighting against animal abuse, it's good to see animals in their own habitat and share a laugh with them, to see how cute they are just give us more inspiration to keep on raising awareness and encourage more people to campaign for them.

Animal Aid Unlimited:
Compassion in Action

.. and back we are in India with this new entry, but fortunately this time with a different story - one that talks about Compassion in Action.
It's the tale of a group of people that decided it's time to roll up the sleeves and do something for all the animals that seriously need help in the neighborhoods of Udaipur.

"Animal Aid Unlimited is a US-based 501(c)3 charitable organization that runs a busy animal hospital and shelter in Udaipur, Rajasthan India, where ownerless street animals are rescued, healed, loved, and returned to the neighborhoods from where they came.

Animal Aid’s mission is to both bring relief to suffering animals, and to awaken compassion among people. Showing everyone a path for action is where we begin."

When you visit their website you will get to know some of the people that are working together to bring a better chance of life to all these beautiful and sweet animals, from professional vets to all the P.W.V.B.H. (People With Very Big Heart..) that volunteer at the hospital and shelter.

These are beautiful stories of animals that from a life of pain, sufferance, food deprivation and fear, got to know a better way through the deep love and compassion of a few committed men and women. Not only to these less fortunate residents the help needed is given, but also to all the local cases brought to their attention - size or number of legs doesn't matter as they all deserve a chance at Animal Aid Unlimited. Through various programs they bring first hand help, awareness and solutions on what can be done for preventing animal suffering, locally and globally.

The following is just a little selection of the 'happy ending' stories at Animal Aid Unlimited.....

“Scout came to Animal in January 2008. He had been attacked by a dog and had many deep wounds. Scout was extremely frightened and in a lot of pain, but after spending time with the staff and volunteers, Scout learned he no longer needed to fear, and he began to trust, receive love, and give love in return. He recovered from his wounds and was released back into the neighborhood where he came from. We don’t know why, because it is fairly rare that bigger dogs attack young ones, but he was attacked again, and this time his injuries are so severe that he is now unable to use his back legs, and will live the rest of his life with people who love him in the company of safe dogs in the middle of a world where he feels loved."

"Raju came with massive electrical burns on his face, and that’s why he looks so strange. His little nose was burned right off. He’s blind. He lives in a caged home that two donors (Pia and Klaus Jacobsen) built for him in 2004. He’s a macaque (red-faced) monkey from North India, and we know he was illegally poached and assume he was forced to perform for money on a chain. But the owner couldn’t use him after his injuries and abandoned him in Udaipur; we received an emergency call from someone who found him laying listless with infected burns all over his face and hands. We don’t know any more than that. Raju needed eye-drops many times during the day, and absolutely hated them. But he recovered all his strength and began playing as soon as we provided him the space to do so. He is not a tame monkey; he doesn’t want to be handled. What he DOES enjoy is harassing dogs that are tied near to him, and he loves his friend Selki (a male monkey. “Selki” means girlfriend. Readers can interpret this as liberally as they may. More on Selki in another story.) Please, if you’ve always wanted a monkey, now’s your chance. Raju needs more friends and you can send him your blessings every day, mysteriously hidden in fruit and vegetables that your donation helps us provide."

“Thomas was a baby donkey who had been tethered leg to leg with plastic packing tape which severed the tendons in his hind leg and permanently disabled him. He has lived in Animal Aid since 2004. Since baby donkeys are extremely fuzzy and affectionate, Thomas never wanted for affection and play from humans, and if ever an animal thought he were a person, it would be Thomas, who sits together with you at mealtimes, relaxes over a newspaper with you during a tea break, follows you through your daily duties of feeding the dogs or other animals, and generally fulfills the highest notion of what it means to be a “companion animal.” That term is usually used in reference to dogs and cats, but anyone who has ever spent time with other species knows that even wild animals are our companions when we live in harmony with them. Thomas is always cheerful; his sweetness accompanies him everywhere, and brightens the day of anyone who has the good luck to pass a few moments with him." .... more stories HERE

It always brings a warm smile in my heart when reading these positive and hopeful stories, i hope it brought it to you as well.
If you can help Animal Aid Unlimited with a donation or by spreading the word out, all the critters will certainly be so grateful!!!
They are always in need of donations for the hospital and shelter costs, every little amount counts so don't be shy - even that ten euros bill is greatly appreciated, Thank You! :o)

Boycott China - By All Means!

The following stories are just a few small examples of the vicious and cowardly cruelty that is inflicted on animals in China on a daily basis (not inclusive of the horrendous cat & dog meat and fur trade).
There's NO way that these acts are justifiable, acceptable and forgiven - NO WAY.
China's Olympic Games are quickly approaching - violence inflicted on humans and animals it's an everyday reality that the chinese government and officials are trying, now more than ever, to hide from the international public eyes.
But my personal choice is that till i'll have a voice - i'll use it, and i will not stop to speak out against those terrible cruel actions.
The stories and the clips are hard to read and watch - but as the old saying goes "To close your eyes will not ease another's pain".

A security guard at Wenzhou University beats a helpless dog to death as students videotape from above. For those of you that can't bear to watch this clip yourself, here's what's in it. At the start of the clip, we see that the dog has already lost control of its hind legs and is trying its best to run away from its attacker on its two front legs. The guard comes up to the dog and after another two or three hits, the dog lies motionless on the road. But we imagine it's not dead just yet, it's just left there to die a slow painful death.

This is how China treats its people - no surprise that there's no respect for animals when human beings are treated this way.

FACTS:

- China's dogs & cats are boiled, stabbed, drowned, bludgeoned, strangled, poisoned, hanged, and electrocuted...experiencing unbearable pain as their legs are routinely broken while trussed up and hung in local markets for human consumption, or skinned alive and cast off like garbage, for the despicable fur trade.

- Dogs [both owned and stray] are relentlessly hunted down by 'police authorized' roving mobs and savagely beaten to death by the hundreds of thousands, in the name of 'rabies' control.

- Bears, suffer a lifetime of excruciating pain as they are surgically mutilated and milked each day for their gall bile. Their paws taken as delicacies for the Chinese restaurant trade or ground into powdered 'medicines'. The use of bear parts supplying the traditional Chinese medicine trade and exotic meat market is the major reason why bear species are declining around the world. Endangered species of bears are fast becoming extinct.

- Rhino, both Black & White, are butchered for their horns and are now highly endangered.

- Over 70-100 million sharks PER YEAR are 'finned' and their carcasses dumped into the sea, to accommodate Chinese' growing taste for shark fin soup.

- 20 million turtles are devoured in China EACH YEAR. Slaughtered alive & fully conscious; their heads are decapitated and crushed...even after a turtle's head is detached from its body, if not crushed properly, destroying the brain, it can survive up to ONE HOUR in agonizing torment. Two thirds of the world's turtles are now threatened with extinction.

- TONS of elephant tusks are carved into ivory trinkets--their feet hacked off for stools and coffee table legs.

- Animals are used as 'dried' ingredients in traditional Chinese medicines and killed in the billions--tiger parts, crocodile bile, deer musk, sea horses, lizards, sea cucumbers, powdered antlers, dog penis, pangolin (scaly anteaters), only to name a few on a seemingly unending list. ALL are considered no more than 'products' to be abused and murdered in the most monstrous ways possible, even if it means permanently wiping many of these species from the face of the planet in order to fulfill often frivolous, antiquated and selfish needs.

- China's role in the single, largest mass butchery of marine mammals on Earth, the annual Canadian seal slaughter, [which has taken over 1.25 million innocent lives in the last 3 years, alone], happens in part, so that dried seal penises can be turned into aphrodisiacs to "theoretically" increase the libidos of elderly men engaging in sex with Asian girls as young as 7 years old.

- Live domestic pets, as well as cows and chickens, are fed to lions and tigers for the "entertainment" of visitors at Chinese zoos. Zoo officials encourage guests to buy domestic animals on the premises, and feed them to the carnivores through special vending flaps fitted onto tourist buses...allowing individuals to throw chickens and other FULLY CONSCIOUS animals to the waiting predators.

- A Chinese chef describes how to cook pangolin [endangered scaly anteater] :
"We keep them alive in cages until the customer makes an order. Then we hammer them unconscious, cut their throats and drain the blood. It is a slow death. We then boil them to remove the scales...cut the meat into small pieces and use it to make braised meat and soup. Usually the customers take the blood home with them afterwards." [The blood is thought to have medicinal value.]

- Live monkey brains are considered a delicacy:
A "gourmet" can buy monkeys in the marketplace and send them to inns for cooking. The cooks first stuff the monkeys into tiny cages and force them to drink rice wine until they're intoxicated. They are then pulled from the cage and bound by their limbs (preventing movement.) Their skulls are hacked open with a sharp knife to reveal easily visible, pulsing blood vessels. The white brains are then scooped out and served as soon as possible; eaten when still warm with seasonings. Monkey brains become pungent if they are not fresh...if the skull was opened too long ago. Thus it is best to open the skull and eat at once, while brain cells are LIVING and blood vessels throbbing.

- It is not unusual in many areas of China, to see live deer in pens or crocodiles in tanks at restaurants. Buying and eating rare animals is a common way of SHOWING OFF. In southern China, rare meat is known as ye wei (wild taste), and people believe eating exotic animals can endow them with bravery, long life or sexual prowess. The Cantonese brag that they will eat ANYTHING that moves!

Gandhi once said:

"The moral progress of a nation can be judged by the way it treats its animals".

Hello China.... Anybody Out There?!?!

Meat : A Euphemism of Murder

Animal flesh comes to us in a nice neat package we call meat without the face attached, but each piece of flesh an individual consumes represents the death and misery of another animal. Their stomach essentially becomes the final resting place for a decaying corpse... a once living, feeling, being.

Every year, countless farm animals are murdered in the United States, usually in modern day factory farms, where the animals are treated like disposable machines. Like any other factory, factory farms are geared for mass production and use machinery and assembly line-type techniques to achieve it. This means disregarding any of the animals natural needs and tendencies, including genetics, diet, digestion, sexual behavior, and their ability to move about. In this system, animals have been reduced to tools, slaves, and commodities, that can be bought, sold, and simply tossed aside to rot when not profitable.

A LIFE SENTENCE BEGINS

On todays modern farms, death begins at birth for the majority of animals. The day after calfs are born, they are separated from their mothers so that they will not drink the precious milk nature intended for them and are instead shipped off to veal farms where they will spend their premature lives in crates too small to turn around in or they will face the same fate as their parents: the horrific dairy farm or the feedlot where they will be raised in misery only to be murdered.

In egg factory farms, so-called useless male chicks are literally weeded out and are thrown in plastic bags, as though they were garbage, and either die from suffocation or starvation. Then the useless chicks are ground-up dead or alive, decapitated, or put in a machine which causes the bodies of the baby chicks to explode. They are then used for fertilizer or feed. The female chicks have their sensitive beaks cut off without any anesthesia and are transported to a cage, slightly larger than a folded newspaper with four other egg-laying hens for the rest of their lives. After the chickens become useless, they are taken to the slaughter house where they are hung by their feet on a conveyor belt and await their fate as they systematically have their throats slit.

A large majority of the pigs born in the United States will spend their entire lives in cramped factory conditions from day one of life, never seeing the sun, until they finally meet their bloody death. Sows are forced into small slated stalls where they are injected with progesterones or steroids to increase the number of piglets in their litter. As soon as they are born, newborn pigs receive injections, their teeth are clipped, their tails are cut off, and their ears are notched, all without anesthetics, causing excruciating pain for the newborns. After the sows are no longer useful, they join their male counterparts in the slaughterhouse where they are either stunned with an electric rod or knocked unconscious with a hydraulic sledgehammer. They are then hung by their feet and have their throats slit to drain the life out of them.

Other species of animals are also meeting this fate. Sheep, rabbits, emu, turkeys, alligators, and even green sea turtles are raised in intensive conditions similar to these where the main goal is to make more money from more animals with less labor, time, and money spent. This is just where the misery begins for these animals.

These animals, living, feeling, breathing like people, are born with a natural need and instinct for companionship with other animals. But, in the industry where money is more important than life, and butchering innocent beings and then consuming their decomposing carcasses is the norm, these animals lives are completely regulated and destroyed. Their food, laced with antibiotics, is formulated to make them grow as quickly as possibly. Animals are artificially inseminated (RAPED, often mechanically) and fed chemicals to make them produce more offspring more often so that those babies may too be killed. All instinctive desires and needs are ignored, and the entire life of these animals is determined by machines controlled by the callous human who is claiming power over their lives.

Factory farmers simply call this management or maintenance, as if they are overseeing the production of machinery. The animals are kept in conditions so crowded and confined that the entire living space reeks of ammonia and other gases from the animals wastes. The animals are treated as a collective whole, not as individual lives that need specialized attention. Despite the fact that crowding the animals induces problems such as fighting amongst the animals and increased death rates, the profits still rise and the animals that arent profitable are simply sold to stockyard auctions, where their almost lifeless bodies are sold for a mere dollar. And the animals who remain unwanted are discarded and left to die.

After a short miserable life of crowding, physical abuse and deformation, and deprivation of natural instincts, farm animals are forced onto trucks via beatings, electric shocks, prodding, kicking, and dragging to be transported in extremely overcrowded conditions to a building where they will be hoisted upside down on meat hooks connected to conveyor belts and have their throats slit while fully conscious. Even if the animals are stunned (which is extremely painful) before they are slaughtered, they often remain conscious and are thus slaughtered as they scream and struggle in terror for their lives. Often times animals do not die for several minutes after they meet the knife wielding murderers and are often boiled or skinned alive or left to die in a pool of their own blood.

The entire slaughterhouse is filled with the stench of blood and death and the screams of animals struggling in vein for their lives echoes throughout. But the producers keep raising these animals in the same miserable conditions, the butchers keep murdering the animals, and the consumers continue to purchase and gorge themselves with the decomposing corpses of innocent animals despite the cries.

How can anyone justify reducing animals to mere commodities that we can simply force into miserable conditions and murder to satisfy the appetites of selfish human beings? How can we call this society and its inhabitants humane or civilized when we are engaged in so much misery and killing? Animals are not simply things or food. They can feel pain, stress, and fear.

The choice of consuming animals is of consequence: a miserable life and terrifying death for animals, poisoning of the Earth and her inhabitants (including you, the consumer), and the continuation of world hunger. Consuming meat is condoning the death of an innocent life for which there is no excuse.

The meat industry thrives off the worlds hunger for a bloody, cruel diet while 90 percent oats, 85 percent corn, and 80 percent soybeans grown in the U.S. are fed to livestock. Lets not forget about all the grains that are imported from poor and starving third world nations, grains that could have been used to feed the starving children of those poor nations. If everyone consumed plant foods instead of animals, there would be enough food to feed the entire world several times over.

Raising animals for food: consumes one-third of all raw materials, causes more water pollution in the U.S. than any other industry, consumes more than half of all water used for all purposes in the U.S., and consumes 87 percent agricultural land. Not only is an animal-based diet bad for the animals and the environment, it is harmful for people. The animals are pumped with antibiotics, hormones, and medication. And so as you consume their flesh, those chemicals go right into your system. We are pushed by the meat and dairy industries to believe that flesh is a natural and necessary part of our diet. These ideas are pushed on us by groups such as McDonalds, which thrives off the dairy and meat industries.

Ask yourself: when you are hungry, do you have the urge to, using your bare hands, kill and rip apart another animal? Does your mouth water at the sight of a screaming, struggling, animal being slaughtered? Eating meat is not natural or healthy for the human body. In fact, those who do choose a non-animal based diet have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, some cancers, osteoporosis, obesity, and many other diseases.

When you consume the flesh of an animal carcass, you are consuming the drugs and hormones fed to the animal during its miserable life, as well as the adrenaline that surged through the body of the animal in its last moments of life before the slaughter.

In school and at home, we are socialized to believe that animals are a commodity, easily grown and harvested, just like the corn we grow and eat. But how many times have you heard a vegetable scream in pain? How many times have you seen a vegetable try, with all its strength, to escape a knife wielding murderer?

Animals in slaughterhouses can hear the screams, smell the stench, and often see those ahead of them being murdered. All of these animals fight for their lives and struggle to get away. But to no avail: societies bloodlust keeps the slaughterhouses thriving on death.

When you pick up a package of meat, think of the cruelty and suffering that comes along with it. That steak is not just another piece of food-it is a chunk of bloody flesh and muscle. It is edible suffering, pain, struggle, and misery of another being. We each have the capability to choose a vegan (animal free) diet and life-style and end the misery and suffering of countless animal beings raised in a miserable environment only to be ultimately murdered.

What You Can Do to Help the Animals pt.6 - Fur-Free Action

FUR-FREE ACTION GUIDE - WHAT YOU CAN DO

It can take 40 or more animals to make a fur coat, but only one person to make a difference.
Here are nine effective ways to help end the suffering and killing of animals for fur and fur trim.

To jump straight to our fur-free outreach materials order form, click here .
To order posters, contact furfree@hsus.org.

1. Be Fur Free

The most important thing you can do to protect animals from the fur trade is to buy and wear only fur-free clothing.

Sign the fur-free pledge and join the more than 115,000 people who have pledged to help us tell the fashion industry that the animals need their fur more than we do.

2. Write Letters

Letters to the editor: Writing letters to the editor is one of the best ways to communicate to the public the problems associated with the fur trade.
For almost no expense, and very little time, you can have your arguments against fur read by thousands of people who go to that section specifically to see what other people think about issues. Get tips on how to write good letters on fur.

Letters to stores: Writing letters to stores can help keep a store fur-free, or help convince one that sells fur to stop doing so, especially if you are a valued customer. However, it is generally most effective when done as part of a focused campaign. Contact information for most department stores and big chains can be found on their websites. You can start by contacting "Neiman Carcass."

3. Share Videos

Nothing beats a video when it comes to imparting the cruelty behind fur production.
If you have friends who wear fur, ask them to watch the videos on our multimedia page, like "Cruelty by Design."
Consider asking—in lieu of holiday gifts—that your close friends and family instead watch a video about the fur industry, like the documentary "The Witness."

4. Wear a Fur-Free Message

Make compassion your fashion with our stylish T-shirt.
Our new Compassion Is My Fashion tee is the perfect way to show that it's stylish to be fur free.

Other great ways to send a fur-free message:

# Donna Salyer's Fur Free Compassion Pin
# Fur Free Zone t-shirt
# "FF" necklace

(note from Animal Voice: you can also create your own customized T-Shirt, nowadays there are many self-made t-shirt shops where you can bring your own design and they will stamp it for you on t-shirts, caps, sweaters, mugs etc.).

5. Educate People

Share our literature with individuals who may be against animal cruelty, but who haven't yet considered what buying or wearing fur supports. Keep fur cards on hand to give to fur wearers, or spend an hour with a friend handing out leaflets outside stores that sell fur. We also make a special leaflet designed to be hung on doorknobs. Order outreach materials here.

6. Organize a Protest or Outreach Event

A protest can be a great way to get media attention and educate shoppers on the issue of needless cruelty to animals by the fur trade. Fur-Free Friday (the day after Thanksgiving, and a huge shopping day) is a traditional day of protest against the fur trade nationwide. Read about previous Fur-Free Friday protests here.
Planning a protest? Order cards and leaflets here and contact furfree@hsus.org to request posters.

7. Put Up Fur-Free Billboards

Putting up a billboard is an exciting way to broadcast the fur-free message. The HSUS offers the materials free of charge—all you need to do is identify a location in your area and cover the posting fee to have the visual placed. Thousands of drivers will see your billboard.
For more information about posting a billboard in your community, contact furfree@hsus.org.

8. Give Our Trapping Case Report to Your Local Vets and Shelters

Give copies of The HSUS' Trapping Case Report form to your local veterinarians and animal shelters.
Ask them to keep it on file in the event that a trapping victim is brought to them.
The information we collect from these forms helps us to enact bans on cruel and indiscriminate traps.

9. Donate Your Fur to Coats for Cubs

If you own fur, one of the best things you can do with it is give it back to animals with our Coats for Cubs program.
Your donation will give comfort to orphaned and injured animals.
Fox kits and other baby animals enjoy the maternal softness of a donated fur.

China's shocking Dog and Cat Fur Trade

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I want to bring to your attention a terrible situation concerning the lives of cats and dogs in China.
Millions of dogs and cats in Asia are killed annually for their skins, which are exported to the UK and other countries around the world.
One fur coat requires the slaughter of up to 24 cats and as many as 12 adult dogs.
Killing methods are unimaginably cruel:
Cats are strangled or drowned, and dogs are restrained by the neck with wire snares and then slashed across the groin. Video footage shows that many are skinned while they are still conscious. Dog and cat fur is still imported into the UK and misleadingly labelled, meaning that fur-coat buyers may purchase dog and cat fur without realising it.

Please watch the following video to realize the reality of the facts
(WARNING: it contains shocking visual material) :
